Canada World Youth Thanks All its Youth Volunteers
Today, as we celebrate the United Nations International Day of the Volunteer, I take this opportunity, on behalf of the Board of Directors and the staff of Canada World Youth, to express to each of our volunteers our deepest thanks and appreciation for the incredible amount of time, energy, knowledge and expertise that they shared throughout the year.
Each year, Canada World Youth volunteers contribute collectively to over 300,000 hours of volunteer time. Their commitment and enthusiasm are the key to our success as an organization. Thanks to their actions, we are able to realize our mission: to increase the ability of people, especially youth in Canada and in other countries, to participate actively in the development of just, harmonious and sustainable societies.
On this special day, we also wish to acknowledge the continuous civic involvement of close to 32,000 Canada World Youth alumni and over 11,000 host families in Canada and abroad. In the past 38 years, they have join hands with us to provide meaningful educational experiences, to increase capacity-building for our partners organizations, to actively engage the Canadian public and to create place for youth around the world. Their contribution offer hope and inspiration in a world ridden by challenges.
As we move closer to the tenth anniversary of the International Day of the Volunteers in 2011, Canada World Youth is committed to raise the profile of volunteering and mobilize many more youth volunteers. Through the implementation of new international development and inter-cultural programs, the establishment of a pan-Canadian public engagement strategy and by working in close cooperation with other Canadian cooperation agencies, Canada World Youth will be positioned to further promote the contributions of volunteers to society, and peace and development.
Once again, we wish to recognize the dynamism, loyalty and commitment of all our volunteers.
Thank you for your contributions. Keep up the good work.
Iris Almeida-Côté
