Hard to believe it's been 30 years. I moved to Northern BC in 1981, in a small community surrounded by 8 first nations reserves; couldn't leave the rich cultural component of Canada, I guess. I married, had 4 children, not quite enough for a Youth exchange group; two in university, one in his second year apprenticeship in machining and the youngest just finishing high school. She is the first to have shown any interest in participating in an exchange and just applied. The children and I moved to Prince George in 2000, I work for two import dealerships as a financial manager and in my spare time am a Youth Exchange Officer for our Rotary club... hosted a student from France last year and hosting a student from Mexico this year. I've been in touch with Rene; would love to hear from all of you.

Hi everyone of the 1980-81 batch of NCC-CWY Exchange Programme,
Am presently working with the LIC of India as the Regional Manager (Corporate Communications) and am posted at Bhopal. Just today got to know about this website and I hope to get reunited with my long lost pals. I would love to get back in touch with all you pals. It seems just like yesterday when we were all together and I still have my autograph book signed by all you guys when we were at the Vishwa Yuva Kendra, New Delhi, prior to 20.4.1981 (the day when our Canadian counterparts bid us farewell and left for Canada). I do hope somehow the entire group gets together again. I wish we could! We must try to make it possible.
Please contact

With regards and lots of love to all,

May 2004 - I married Don Comeau, Dec. 19, 1981, whom I met through my billeting family in Pembrook, Ontario. Don was in the Canadian Armed Forces which took us to several communities in Canada and abroad. We continued to enjoy many cultural experiences over the past 23 years. We have 3 wonderful children, 21, 18 & 16 yrs. of age. I have worked in the insurance industry for the past 13 years. Recently I received a severance package and am presently unemployed. I am exploring new career opportunities with my past experience with Canada World Youth continuing to be the foundation of dreams and change. I want to continue to make a difference!

June 2005 - Hello out there. I have thought of all those who were in the Ontario/Colombia exchange. I have often thought and wondered where they were in this big country of ours. In 1988 I was working for Tip Top Tailors in Fredericton N.B. and one of the ladies I worked with was talking with me. You know we live in a very small world because in the course of talking we discovered that we had someone in common - it turned out that Year Ten's Country Co-Ordinator Robert Hache was a very close friend of her and her husband. I got to catch up with him on the phone and we talked for close to 2 hours unfortunately, it was on his last night in town, I was disappointed not to see him but oh it was great to talk to him and find out how he was doing - at the time he was still with CWY. I lost touch with Scott and the rest of my group but everyone of you have been in my thoughts all these years, with much affection and wondering where we had all gone. Please feel free to contact me I really have missed you all so very much. On a personal note I have never found the fellow who can tie me down, I think he got away a while ago but I am the proud Aunty to 5 beautiful girls (one who tells everyone I am her Aunty-Mom) and 3 handsome boys. I tell everyone I meet in the right age group to apply for CWY, that it stays with you all your life and so do the friendships that you make for even if there are miles between they are within your heart. I love you all my friends.
I would love to hear from all of the 1980/81 exchange to Colombia from all three of the groups. Please e-mail me at any one of the 3 e-mail addresses above. On yahoo chat be_traveler gets me and on MSN bc_girl I hope that you will drop me a line or catch me online at either place because they are both always on. Drop on by and we can have a cyber coffee or tea and lunch or even supper. If anyone knows where Gaetane Lemaire is get her to contact me I want to catch up. Take care till then, keep safe and be happy.

February 2006 - I am lucky to be married to Marie-Claude Roy and to have two wonderful sons Raphaël and Philip-Edouard. After working for Canada World Youth for almost twenty years, we then spent six years in the US where I served as President of AFS International, the largest intercultural exchange organization in the world, and then Executive Director of FIRST, (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). We then decided it was time to get closer to family, and so we moved to Quebec City where I work at Université Laval in public affairs. We are always pleased to hear from and see people from CWY.

Hello. I'm Dominic / Dominique from Quebec City. It's been a long time, but I think it was in 1980-1981 that I was in Pembroke Ontario and Pie de Cuesta, Colombia. It was an amazing experience which will always be very important for me. I still tell stories from it and I am still in amazement thinking back. I am living in London, UK, since 1988 so it's really my home now and I have a British passport. I often thought to get in touch and I have finally done it, so please look me up on Facebook (Dominic Gagnon in London UK).

April 2003 - I just got a call from the CWY office in Ottawa looking for an updated address - and the memories came flooding back!! It seems like yesterday - and I remember with fondness what a great team we had! Shinimicas, N.S. and Coyolar, Costa Rica ...wow!
I am currently a Vice-Principal of a busy high school - and loving it. I have encouraged many youth to consider "CWY", "Katimavik", "One World Global Education", and so on....and the rewards of global experiences continue.
I'm happy to feel connected to CWY again.

October 2006 - Hello Darin,Steve, and Pete - nice to know you're out there. I live in small town just a ferry ride from Van - called Gibsons with husband Mark and 3 children and 2 dogs. I used to be travel agent but since children I have been a full time Mom - homeschooling them for the past 6 years. This is the 1st year they are all in school - hence the time to waste on the dreaded computer!- not my favorite pastime. Do you still keep in touch with Frank, Darin? Do any of you still keep in contact with your counterparts - Last time I heard from Ruth was probably 12yrs ago- I guess I now have time to look her up again. CWY groups come to our community in the past couple of years but we don't have enough room to host them. I am always encouraging my eldest daughter (15yrs) to think about signing up when she's old enough. Well it's been nice chatting.

If your in the Waterloo area, please look me up.

October 2001 - Hi 1980-81 batch! I just found this site. It's great to know quite we can still get in touch with a few ol buddies this way.
After the program I worked as airport ground staff with Malaysian Airlines for about 10 years. Then I quit, went to the U.S.A. to do my flying training for a year, and then it was back to India, where I flew cargo in a turboprop for about 3years. I am now flying a Boeing 737 for a domestic airline. I would love to get in touch with all my mates and am actually planning for a reunion. Do get in touch. Would anyone know the whereabouts of Jill Holmes, Carlolyn, Heather Matheison, Andy Gallaher or Russell?

I am living just north of Toronto now with my partner and 13 year old daughter who brings joy to each and every day of my life! After CWY, I worked for a few years and then decided it was time for a little more education. I've been in the IT field ever since. I see in this guest book that a few folks were talking about a reunion for our 25th aniversary this year. I'd just love to see folks again! For people who can't travel, maybe we could set up a virtual reunion over the web. Anyhow - anyone interested please contact me to help organize it. I have to say that CWY changed my life, in great part due to all the great people I spent time with. Please contact me any time.

August 2001 - It's hard to believe that most of us our now closer to our retirement date than our CWY days.
I completed my Mechanical Engineering degree at McMaster in 1985. I worked for 8 years in Midland Ontario for Ernst Leitz which makes photographic equipment. I am now working in Cambridge, Ontario for COM DEV, which designs and manufactures communication equipment for commercial satellites.
I am married and living in Guelph with two daughters, ages 9 and 10. Looking back I find it quite amazing how CWY has not only affected my ideas and attitudes, but I can see this filtering into the values and principles of my daughters. We are still interested in cultural diversity and often have foreign students in Canada to learn English, boarding at our home.

CWY program has given me an incredible multi-culture learning experience. As a media to learning global value, the program has helped participants to understand the world and brotherhood in a natural way.
I thank Susan Stulen for the invitation to the annual mini reunion in 1994 at her home in Paris, Ontario, so that I could get the chance to meet other CWY friends again, like Lester Storey and Bill Fallis.

Even if I have been communicating with Brian Bauche occasionally in the last thirty years, does not mean that I don`t miss you all. After spending much of my time with youth programs in the 80`s (Katimavik in the NWT and back with CWY in Indonesia and the Philippines) seems that I had a need to burn my suit case and settle down in my own town of Cowansville. January 2008, Hi…. all, Happy New Year! Wishing you all and your loved ones great health, a blessed joyful life and continued prosperity.
Being an entrepreneur together with my husband Donny Dompas, we are very happy leaving here in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. We meet many expatriates they are mostly working with the Oil and Mining Companies, and I also joint the Rotary Club of Balikpapan. Our daughter Farah Savitri Dompas is 21 years old, still staying with us but she will be going abroad to continue her study for Communications as she plan to do it next year, she is currently working with the biggest Newspaper here in East Kalimantan. Our son, Faridz Azhar Dompas is 16 years old, now at the boarding school in Jakarta. He also wish to continue his study this mid year either in Singapore or at the University of Ottawa, Canada for Bio-Technology / Faculty of Engineering. I understand that is not easy to get in to the well known University especially in the two countries I mention before, I will appreciate very much if any of my dearest friends here could help by giving me information related to my daughter and son plans for their study, such as Pre-University Program or anything that is necessary. They may be also need Foster Parent or Dormitory at the beginning or during Pre-University Program for adaptation before they enter the University. Any information, please send direct to my e-mail.
Thank you and warmest regards…………

September 2005 - I'm so pleased to see this type of a website for we all to reconnect. I'm still here on PEI [or IPE as our Francois & Michel regularly reminded me during the program]. After the program, I finished my degree, then took a 2 yr diploma in Computer Programming and have worked in the IT field ever since. My spouse-to-be & I literally built our own house in 1987, then married. That was quite a miracle in itself, that we survived the four months of blood, sweat, & tears. I had a beautiful boy in 1994 and already he's as tall as me [although 5'2" is not exactly much of a giant].
Life has thrown a few curves my way, but none too insurmountable. I try to do my part regularly here in my community ... our Food Bank, my child's school, etc. In 2002, I hosted a Jamaica-Canada NetCorps pair and we had a blast. I forgot how great of an organization this was/is.
I would love to hear from any of the fellow 1980-81 Ontario-Malaysia participants.
Take care all,

Deb, I saw your message about your son... My oldest, Felix, just turned 19 and left for Ukraine with CWY yesterday. He is having an incredible time.
I must say I had a little to do with getting him to apply. Hope your son can have the same type of experience. Where are you now?
Zoe

February 2005 - Magandang Araw Sa Kamilang Lahat, I guess with age comes nostalgia. Since my stay in the Phillipines I gave myself 20 years to explore. I did a partial program with Katimavik, which included an exchange with the California Conservation Corps. I am currently a School Bus driver but have trvelled extensively, throughout N.A. as a truck driver, carny ,and Musician. I hope to hear from others who have the same nostalgic bone!!!!!

June 2006 - I am living in Chelsea, QC, have been married 10 yrs and have 2 girls, ages 7 & 9. I am working at a Community Health Centre in Ottawa as a Community Dietitian. The clients I work with tend to be low-income and multi-cultural, and I often deal with basic nutrition and food access issues.
Great reunion last summer with other Senegal CWY folks. For fun I spend my time coaching soccer and skiing, and going cycling and camping with my family.
Thanks, Bonnie

November 2006 - Hi.In June 1981 jcm hosted a reintegration get together at Camp Dorset, a few months after we returned from the program in Senegal. There I met the man I married, Alan Dhingra.(Columbia/Guelph 1979) We've been married 24 years now, 25th anniversary coming up in the summer! We have travelled through Europe and across Canada together and have settled with our 2 children in the rural community of St. Marys, Ontario. Our oldest child, (well, he's a man, who am I kidding?) Noel is participating this year in the New Brunswick, Gand Falls/ Ghana program. I find it very interesting to experience this fantastic program from the parental point of view. We are confident he will have, as we did, many experences that will stay with him throughout his life. So Hello to anyone out there who might still remember me. Ann

Sri Lanka/British Columbia 1980-1981
February 2001 - Last night I was at a birthday party for a friend here in Victoria, British Columbia and met two other past participants of CWY and we started chatting about our experiences. I was pleased to find out about this website and hope it brings some of the people from our group together. Currently, I am a visual artist (a sculptor) and have been making art for many years now. After leaving CWY, I went on to Katimavik, (1984), from there to International workcamps in England and travelled as much as I could. . . with short returns to my home in Newfoundland in between. Currently living in Victoria and settling in after living the past 9 years in NYC. I would love to catch up with any past participants. Canada World Youth changed my life.. opened the doors to many new worlds. Salut!

January 2000 - I'm currently finishing a degree in Political Science at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. Got temporarily distracted from my education by the realities of children (and then single parenting) and local government, where I was an elected City Councillor for 8 years. I've just finished doing 16 months of co-op work with the department of foreign affairs in Ottawa and am expecting to proceed to a doctorate in United Nations studies. I've been in touch, and met with Ken Bush, Calvin Piggot and Judy Matthews from our programme and can provide contact info for them if you would like. I would love to get in touch with others from our year: Monique, Roz, Penny, Marc, John et al.

Would love to hear from other participants in my progam in Malaysia, as well as from those who were in the Sri Lanka - ontario programs in 1979 amd 1980. If you are interested in catching up with your former co-participants, please contact me via email at swong55(at)yahoo.com.

December 2003 - Calling all CWY Sri Lanka friends & family:
Aiyubowan, Bonjour, Hi! this is Calvin Piggott, CWY group leader in Sri Lanka from 1978-81. I ran into Sharon Wong (1980-81) recently here in Ottawa, and we have decided to try and organize a CWY-Sri Lanka reunion: ie. a 24, 25 and 26 year reunion for everyone involved in the CWY Sri Lanka exchange from 1978-81!!! We have chosen July 1-3, 2004, a good time to come to Ottawa with family, significant others, or otherwise, for all interested Sri Lanka philes. Gary Bougard and Renée Giroux have kindly (foolishly) offered their farm yard, in Mayo, Québec, a 40 minute drive from Ottawa for a camping reunion. To entice those who may be reticent about delving into their foggy pasts, there will be hot tubs, massage, good food (yes rice and curry), swimming, hiking in the woods, and other less strenuous activities that such a reunion would demand. For details, or to be added to the email contact list, and to help organize the reunion, please contact Sharon or myself via the CWY website. We hope to hear from lots of you. As a bonus incentive, Don Brownell, Judy Matthew and other field staff from this era may also be enticed to come out of the wood work....

many complaints about receiving spam by having email addresses publicly published

We are looking into the possibility of creating a web-access application that will
allow members of the CWY family to sign up and communicate directly with each other.
However for now, we recommend that you try online tools such as Google, Facebook,
canada411.ca, etc. to track down the people you are looking for. However, if you
wish to mention the city where you live or your place of work in your entry, that
may make it easier for old teammates to find you using the tools mentioned above!
